Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why hire a medical or health writer?
In the world of health care, clear, accurate and evidence-based information is crucial to engage audiences and comply with regulations, such as AHPRA and TGA. This is more relevant in today’s digital world than ever.
My clients know that high-quality writing and editing in medical, healthcare and scientific fields requires a strong scientific background, writing expertise, a track record of executing writing projects and knowledge of relevant guidelines and regulations.
I am an active member of the Australian Medical Writers Association, and hold a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales/McGill University and First Class Honours from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (neurobiology program).
What does medical or health writing or editing cost?
Most clients ask for a project-based fee, which means that the quote you're provided with covers a kick-off meeting and two revisions. There are no hidden extras, no extra charges. Some clients prefer an hourly or day rate, which means that the hours worked are charged for and invoiced weekly.
What does grant consulting, writing or editing cost?
If your project is grant-ready, with all the pieces in place for writing or editing the application, you can choose between a project-based fee or a day rate.
When we work together, I'll often identify an aspect of the project that needs changing or a new approach to take in a grant application. When this happens, what is originally intended to be an edit becomes a rewrite, possibly requiring research or stakeholder engagement. That's why using a day rate can be more suitable.
What is the client confidentiality policy?
I understand that the nature of our work may involve access to confidential, sensitive or commercially sensitive information, including unpublished research, clinical materials, grant applications and proprietary business information.
I am committed to maintaining strict confidentiality and will:
• Treat all client information as confidential unless otherwise agreed in writing
• Use client information solely for the purpose of delivering agreed services
• Not disclose, share, or publish client materials without prior written consent
• Implement reasonable safeguards to protect client data from unauthorised access or disclosure
Where required, I am willing to enter into formal confidentiality or non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) prior to commencing work.
This obligation does not apply to information that:
• Is publicly available (other than through a breach of confidentiality)
• Is required to be disclosed by law or regulatory authority
For services provided to clients, it is the client’s responsibility to store, backup destroy or retain any information once they have received delivery of the relevant information.
